The current situation of Turkish marble export to Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia’s unofficial boycott of Turkish products has had a negative impact on marble exports. On October 3, 2020, the Saudi Arabian chamber of Commerce called on all Saudis to stop negotiating with Turkish companies and once again to boycott any Turkish products. Since Saudi Arabia is the second largest destination of Turkey’s marble products, the impact of informal boycott is serious, which has a negative impact on Turkey’s total marble exports.
According to turkstat, Turkey’s Marble exports to Saudi Arabia dropped by more than 90% in value and quantity from October to December 2020. In the chart below, we can see the monthly trend of Turkey’s exports to Saudi Arabia in 2020.

Due to the novel coronavirus pneumonia pandemic and blockade, there was a big fluctuation in 2020. Although October was the month with the highest exports, the appeal of the chairman of the Council of chambers of Commerce in Saudi Arabia seemed to have received a great response, leading to a sharp decline in Turkish marble exports. In the first quarter of 2021, Turkey’s exports to Saudi Arabia continued to decline at a high speed. Between October – December 2020 and January – March 2021, the value and quantity decreased by 100%.20210514092911_6445
