Construction preparation

Materials and main machinery
(1) The variety and specifications of granite should comply with the design requirements, technical grade, glossiness, and appearance in accordance with the provisions of “Natural Granite Building Materials” (GB/T 18601-2009);
(2) Cement: Portland cement, ordinary Portland cement, or slag Portland cement, with a strength grade not less than 32.5;
(3) Sand: Medium or coarse sand, with a silt content not exceeding 3%;
Main equipment
Trolley, shovel, guiding rule, water ladle, ash bucket, iron trowel, wood trowel, ink line, steel tape, nylon line, rubber hammer (or wood hammer), iron level ruler, curved square ruler, steel chisel, broom, grinding wheel saw, wire brush

02
Operating conditions

01
After the granite plate enters the site, it should be carefully checked whether the variety, specifications, and quantity meet the design requirements. If there are defects such as cracks, missing edges, falling corners, and warping, they should be removed;
02
Install the grinding wheel saw and connect the water and power supply;
03
The ground cushion layer, the pre buried pipelines in the cushion layer, and the pipelines passing through the ground have all been completed;
04
Before construction, a detailed construction drawing of laying granite slabs should be drawn;
05
The ambient temperature during winter construction shall not be lower than 5 ℃

Operation process

process flow
Preparation work – grassroots treatment – brushing cement slurry and laying cement mortar bonding layer – laying marble slab (granite slab) – grouting and wiping joints
Pave granite
1. Grassroots treatment: Clean and level off the debris on the ground cushion layer, brush off the mortar bonded to the cushion layer with a steel wire brush, and clean it thoroughly
2. Brushing cement slurry and laying mortar binding layer
(A) After the cushion is cleaned, spray water with a water ladle to wet it, and brush a layer of plain cement slurry (the Water–cement ratio is 0.4~0.5, and the brush area should not be too large, and brush while laying mortar);

03

(B) Determine the thickness of the mortar bonding layer based on the horizontal line of the board surface, and pull the control line;

04

(C) Start laying the bonding layer with dry and hard cement mortar (usually using 1:2~1:3 dry and hard cement mortar, with the appropriate degree of dryness being “kneaded into a ball by hand and scattered upon landing”);

05

(D) The thickness should be controlled to be 3-4 mm higher than the horizontal line of the surface layer when placing the granite plate; After paving, use a large bar to scrape it flat, and then use a trowel to compact and level it (the paving area should not be too large);

06

(E) The plate shall be soaked with water first, and then it shall be wiped or dried on the surface before formal paving: first, a full layer of plain cement slurry with a Water–cement ratio of 0.5 shall be poured on the cement mortar bonding layer (poured evenly with a mortar pot);

07

(F) After the cement slurry surface layer water has basically infiltrated into the lower layer of dry and hard cement mortar (usually using 1:2-1:3 dry and hard cement mortar, the degree of dryness should be “kneaded into a ball by hand, and scattered upon landing”), then lay the plate

08

3. Laying granite slabs
(A) When laying plates, all four corners fall simultaneously;

09

(B) Use a rubber or wooden hammer to lightly tap the surface of the granite, adjust the gap and height, and ensure that the front, back, left, and right meet the requirements;

10

(C) Use a level ruler to level according to the horizontal line, ensuring that the slope meets the requirements of the drawing. After laying the first block, lay it in sequence towards both sides and in the backward direction. After laying vertically and horizontally, it can be laid in sections and zones in sequence. Generally, backward laying is used to facilitate the protection of finished products

11

4. Filling and wiping joints:
Grouting and joint wiping shall be carried out 1-2 days after the laying of the slab. According to the color of the granite, choose mineral pigments of the same color and mix them evenly with cement. Mix the 1:1 cement slurry with a mortar pot and slowly pour it into the gaps between the plates (which can be divided into several times), and use a long scraper to scrape the discharged cement slurry towards the joints; Within the gap, until it is basically filled.
After 1-2 hours of grouting, use a cotton ball dipped in the original cement slurry to wipe the joints and surface of the board flat. At the same time, wipe the cement slurry off the board surface to make the granite surface clean, flat, and solid. After the above processes are completed, the surface layer should be covered, and the curing time should not be less than 7 days
